IC 548 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 246 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 45,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 2939 and NGC 2940 .

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on April 13, 1893 .
