IC 548 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 246 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 45,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 2939 and NGC 2940 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on April 13, 1893 .
