IC 563 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBab in the constellation Sextant south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 262 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter . Together with IC 564 , it forms the pair of galaxies Arp 303 .
Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This pair of galaxies belongs to the class Unclassified double galaxies . In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy IC 561 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on March 21, 1893 .
