IC 578 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Leo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 392 million light years from the Milky Way and approximately 140,000 light years in diameter. Together with IC 577 , it forms the isolated galaxy pair KPG 220 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3069 , NGC 3070 , IC 576 , IC 580 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on March 22, 1892 .
