IC 589 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type S in the constellation Sextant south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 441 million light-years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 90,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky there are u. a. the galaxy NGC 3110 .
The object was discovered on March 9, 1893 by Édouard Stephan .
