IC 596 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is around 419 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 110,000 light years .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3130 and IC 595 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on April 18, 1893 .
