IC 588 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Sextant south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 308 million light years from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on March 17, 1893 .
