IC 587 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Sextant south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 273 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 105,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 3090 , NGC 3092 , NGC 3093 , NGC 3101 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on March 20, 1893 .
