IC 558 is an elliptical galaxy with an active galaxy core in the constellation Leo. It is estimated to be 415 million light years from the Milky Way and about 100,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on February 23, 1889 by the Austrian astronomer Rudolf Ferdinand Spitaler and later listed by Johan Dreyer in his index catalog .
