Eva Löwstädt was born in Stockholm in 1864 as the daughter of master tailor Rudolf Löwstädt and his wife Carolina Magdalena Sophia, née Nordqvist. Her grandfather was the painter and graphic artist Carl Theodor Löwstädt . Her sister Emma , born in 1855, was also a painter.

After completing school, Emma Löwstädt studied at the Tekniska Skolan Art School (now Konstfack ) in Stockholm from 1885 to 1886 . She also received lessons in etching from Axel Tallberg . From 1887 to 1890 she continued her studies at the Académie Colarossi and the Académie Julian in Paris. She then stayed in Italy for three years. After returning to Sweden, she married Ludvig Åström in 1893. In Stockholm she was one of the students of the artists' association Konstnärsförbundet . In the 1890s she traveled to Paris again and visited her sister Emma in the artists' colony in Grez-sur-Loing . Eva Löwstädt-Åström's preferred motifs include landscape paintings and flower still lifes, which are influenced by the style of Impressionism . Her works can be found in the National Museum in Stockholm , for example .

Individual evidence

  1. There are different details about the year of birth. 1864 is noted on the tombstone, see list of tombstones Gravstensinventeringen (with picture) . In early reference works there is a deviation from the year 1865, see John Kruse: Svenskt Portraittgalleri XX. , Page 184.
