IC 496 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Cancer on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 341 million light years from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years across. Together with IC 2229 , it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair KPG 155 .
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 2535 , NGC 2536 , NGC 2540 , IC 2230 .

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on March 2, 1892 .
