IC 478 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Gemini on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 498 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years across. In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy IC 479 and IC 480 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on March 2, 1892 .
