IC 478 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Gemini on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 498 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years across. In the same area of ​​the sky is u. a. the galaxy IC 479 and IC 480 .

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on March 2, 1892 .
