IC 472 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb with an active galaxy core in the constellation Lynx in the northern sky . It is around 255 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 120,000 light years. Presumably it forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair together with IC 471 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on April 20, 1890 .
