IC 498 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type S in the constellation Canis Minor south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 447 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 120,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy IC 2231 .
The object was discovered on November 11, 1888 by Rudolf Ferdinand Spitaler .
