The water tower Böblingen (sometimes also referred to as the water tower on the Waldburg ) is a water tower completed in 1928 in the Baden-Württemberg city of Böblingen with a container of 80 cubic meters.

The 31.2 meter high water tower has a former public viewing platform at a height of 28 meters, but is now closed, to which 151 steps lead. The tower is the tallest accessible structure in Böblingen.

history

The water tower was designed by city architect Gustav Eberle and built by the Kopp company. Depending on the source, the construction costs for the tower were between 6,300 and around 15,000 Reichsmarks , in which the Swabian Alb Association contributed with a construction subsidy of 1,000 Reichsmarks. The tower was inaugurated on April 1, 1928 by the city councilor Georg Kraut , and put into operation on July 1, 1928.

An air observation tower from 1917, which belonged to Böblingen Airport and had to be demolished due to its dilapidation , previously stood at the same location .

The tower was decommissioned in 2004, and has been in operation again since 2011 after renovation. The tower has not been accessible as a lookout tower since 2019.

Surroundings

Next to the water tower there is a playground, as well as a pub and a beer garden , the operators of which also manage the viewing platform for events. Once a year the open-air festival Rock am Turm takes place with regional bands.
