The Mosebacke water tower ( Swedish : Mosebacke vattentorn ) is a water tower in Stockholm 's Södermalm district .

The water tower used today as a pumping station is located in the northern part of Södermalm, at Mosebacke torg 7, south of the Fiskargatan .

History and architecture

The octagonal brick tower was built according to plans by the architect Ferdinand Boberg on the highest point in the area and was completed in 1896. It is 32 meters high, held 104 m³ of water and was used to increase the water pressure in the Katarinaberget district. An apartment for employees was also built in the tower.

The system, which is visible from afar, was in operation as a water tower until 1960 and has been used as a pumping station ever since.
