The water tower north is a 54 meter high water tower in the city of Halle (Saale) in Saxony-Anhalt .

architecture

The striking water tower, which helped shape the cityscape, was built between 1897 and 1899 under city planning officer Ewald Genzmer based on a design by city planning inspector Heinrich Walbe as part of a city expansion to the north.

The tower, made of red ashlar and yellow clinker bricks, is architecturally lavishly designed and decorated. The shaft of the round tower tapers upwards and is crowned by a protruding tower upper floor. The tower head, made of iron framework , is covered with slate and is in turn crowned by a lantern . The sandstone sea monsters at the foot of the building were made by the sculptors Fr. Guth and Fr. Mänicke.

The elevated tank had a capacity of 1500 m³ and was designed according to a principle by Otto Intze ( Intze-2 tank ). The container has a diameter of 13 m and is 11 m high. Only after the commissioning of the long-distance water network between the Eastern Harz and the Elbaue in 1965 did the tower become inoperable. From 1992 to 1999 the listed building was renovated.

Alongside the water tower south and the water tower at the main train station, it is one of the most striking technical structures in the city.
