The Vegesack water tower in Bremen - Vegesack , Bermpohlstraße 40, is one of the most important buildings in Bremen and is a listed building .

history

In 1887 the first plans for the expansion of the Vegesack water supply were presented by the engineer Fritz Geck from Münster and the waterworks director Ludwig Disselhoff from Hagen . In mid-1891, when around 17 wells were in use in Vegesack, the project took shape. The extensive water supply system was expanded according to Disselhoff's plans using a 12 km pipe network, starting from the waterworks (then Bremer Strasse, now Uthoffstrasse). It was used to supply Vegesack in Bremen and later the neighboring Prussian communities.

The partly red-stone-eyed, round, 32-meter-high water tower was built in 1892 (inscription) according to plans by Disselhoff in the typical architecture of the turn of the century. The round, high clinker brick base, on which the upper, polygonal, wood-clad, green tower section stands with the 220 cubic meter water tank, is formative. The water tower was in operation until 1965. The water tank remained. Bremen left in 1980 the artist Peter F. Kruger, the building in long lease , the einbaute his studio and his apartment in the base and the tower area.

Monument protection

The building was listed as a cultural monument in Bremen in 2013 .
