Water tower in Waldsieversdorf

The water tower is a listed building in Waldsieversdorf , a municipality in the Märkisch-Oderland district in Brandenburg .

history

The Berlin factory owner Ferdinand Kindermann built the eleven-meter-high tower in 1897 to supply his villa colony with drinking water. To do this, he drew water from the Rote Luch into the groundwater from the Stöbber . At the Margaret Spring, named after his daughter, the water emerged from an artesian spring . From here, a pipe around 800 meters long led to the water tower 34 meters higher with a capacity of around 70,000 liters. Kindermann used the Stöbber again to drive a pump using water power, which delivered the water to the container. From the tower he distributed the water to the households. In 1927 103 houses were connected to the drinking water network via a pipeline of 5,103 meters in length. In 1902, Kindermann praised in the Vossische Zeitung : "De-icing systems are not required for this ingenious practical water pipe, since Scherling's analysis shows that the water does not contain iron, but is of excellent quality."

The building, which was restored in the 1990s, has been made available to the public as a lookout tower since the 21st Jägerfest in 1998.

architecture

The octagonal structure rests on a plinth made of red bricks . A staircase with a white railing leads to the ground floor of the water tower. Like the upper floor, it is finished with white plaster. Two slit-like windows per wall let light into the interior of the tower. There is the restored technology for the water supply of the villa colony. The upper floor is set off with a brown and yellow cornice . There, too, slot-like, parallel windows ensure brightness. Inside is the water tank with a level indicator. The structure is a crenelated parapet completed, which in turn was created out of red brick.

There is a memorial stone in front of the building that commemorates the 10th anniversary of the Kindermanns colony.
