The wwt is published by the dfv media group; nine issues appear per year. According to IVW, their widespread circulation is currently 6,350 copies.
The journal was founded in 1951 by the East Berlin publishing house for construction as a scientific journal for the technology and economics of water management . At that time it appeared monthly and was published by the Ministry for Environmental Protection and Water Management and the Chamber of Technology of the GDR . Huss-Medien GmbH took over the publication until mid-2018.
