Wassili Markelowitsch Pronin

Vasily Markelowitsch Pronin ( Russian Василий Маркелович Пронин; born July 24, 1905 in the village of Kobelewo, Tula governorate ; † November 23, 1966 ) was a Russian cameraman and film director.

In 1927 the trained laboratory assistant started at Meschrabpom , where he worked as a cameraman, particularly in the early 1930s. In 1941 he made his debut as a director at Mosfilm with a war film. After the early Tajik film Son of Tajikistan (1943), he made Saltanat , the first Kyrgyz feature film , in 1955 . His best-known films include the Soviet-Indian coproduction Voyage Over Three Seas (1957) and Kasaki (1961), both of which were shown as competition entries at the Cannes Film Festival , as well as his last film Our Home (1965).

For several years he worked as a film consultant in Romania and the GDR. In 1955 he was honored as an Honored Artist of the Kyrgyz SSR , and in 1965 as a People's Artist of the RSFSR .
