history

According to legend, one day the statue of the reclining Buddha floating on the Chao Phraya River floated in front of the temple, where it sank. The population pulled the statue out of the river and built a viharn for it on the bank. Over the years the river banks have eroded, so that in the reign of King Thai-Sra (r. 1709–1733) a new Ayutthaya-style viharn was erected at a distance of 170 m from the river, where the statue is still to this day see is.

Wat Pa Mok was created when two temples were merged at the behest of King Thai Sa , namely Wat Chi Pakhao and Wat Thalad. It got its name Wat Pa Mok in the Ayutthaya period because of the many mok trees ( Apocynaceae ) that stood here in the past.
