Only the ruins of the Buddhist temple complex Wat Tuek ( Thai วัด ตึก ) have survived . It is located in Sukhothai Province Sukhothai in the northern region of Thailand .

location

Wat Tuek is part of the Sukhothai Historical Park , it is located about 400 meters west of the O-City Gate ( ประตู อ้อ - Pratu O) outside the Old City (Mueang Kao - เมือง เก่า ) of Sukhothai.

Building history

Wat Tuek was founded during the Sukhothai Kingdom . From 1970 to 1971 the buildings were restored by the Fine Arts Department .

Attractions

There are these sights on the small temple grounds:

  • The small Mondop with a side length of eight meters contains a seated Buddha statue made of bricks , which was once covered with stucco . The Mondop has three brick walls and a portal on the east side. The arrangement is similar to Wat Si Chum , but is much smaller. Stucco reliefs on the outside, which can still be seen in historical photos, showed scenes from the life of the Buddha ( Jataka ) . Today nothing is left of them.
  • To the east of the Mondop are the remains of an assembly hall ( Wihan ) measuring 10 × 14 meters. Some laterite columns and a badly dilapidated Buddha statue made of laterite have been preserved. The Wihan is surrounded by several bases of small chedis .
