Jun'ichi Watanabe

Junichi Watanabe ( Jap. 渡辺淳一 , Watanabe Jun'ichi * 24. October 1933 in Kamisunagawa , Hokkaido , † the 30th April 2014 in Tokyo ) was a Japanese writer .

Watanabe studied at Sapporo Medical School and then worked as an orthopedic surgeon. Since 1969 he lived as a writer in Tokyo. He became known with works such as the erotic novel Shitsurakuen ( 失 楽 園 , "A Lost Paradise"), novels with medical topics and biographical works. Many of his books, in addition to the aforementioned novel, including Toki rakujitsu ( 遠 き 落日 , 1992) and Wakarenu riyū ( 別 れ ぬ 理由 , 1987), were made into films. In 1970 he was awarded the Naoki Prize for Hikari to Kage ( 光 と 影 ) .

Jun'ichi Watanabe died of prostate cancer on April 30, 2014 at the age of 80 in his apartment in Tokyo.
