Watford is an above-ground station of the London Underground and one of the four western terminus of the Metropolitan Line . It is located in Travel Zone 7 and is one of 14 stations outside of Greater London . It is located on Cassiobury Park Avenue in Watford City . In 2013 the station was used by 1.66 million passengers.

The station was opened on November 2, 1925 by the Metropolitan Railway (MR, predecessor of the Metropolitan Line), as part of the branch line from Moor Park . It was the first MR line to be electrified from the start; trains on the Great Central Railway also ran to London Marylebone during the first few months . Although the station is somewhat peripheral, a planned extension to downtown Watford was never built.

future

For decades there was a short railway line from Watford Junction , the city's main train station, to Croxley Green . This station was only a few hundred meters from the Metropolitan Line station, but there was never a connection. There are plans to connect this line, which has been closed since 1996, to the metropolitan line near Croxley by means of a viaduct and to expand it to a double track. The commissioning of the Croxley Rail Link is scheduled for 2015 or 2016, after which the station is to be closed. In the future, Watford will continue to exist as a depot to act as a parking and shunting facility for the Metropolitan Line.
