The Wawel Hill ( Polish Góra Wawel ) is a 290 m high hill on King George Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It rises north of Point Hennequin on the east bank of Admiralty Bay .
Participants in a Polish Antarctic expedition named it in 1980 after the Wawel , the residence of the Polish kings in Krakow . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee transferred the Polish name to English in 1984.
