Wayne Eagling

Wayne Eagling (born November 27, 1950 in Montreal ) is a Canadian ballet dancer and choreographer.

Eagling trained as a dancer in California and at the Royal Ballet School in London with Patricia Ramsay . In 1969 he became a member, in 1972 solo dancer and in 1975 master dancer of the Royal Ballet . He took on roles in MacMillan's Triad (1972), Elite Syncopations (1974), Gloria (1980) and Different Drummer (1984) by Kenneth MacMillan , Four Schumann Pieces (1975) by Hans van Manen and Consort Lessons (1983) by David Bintley .

His first choreographies were created in the 1980s, including Frankenstein, the Modern Prometheus (music by Vangelis , Royal Ballet, London, 1984), Beauty and the Beast (music by Vangelis, Royal Ballet, London, 1986), Byron (music by Peter Tchaikovsky , Corpo di Ballo del Teatro alla Scala , 1988) and Nijinsky (music by Claude Debussy , ballet of the Teatro di San Carlo , Naples, 1989). In 1989 he choreographed the Wall Concert on the occasion of the fall of the Berlin Wall .

In 1991 Eagling ended his career as a dancer and took over the artistic direction of the Dutch Het Nationale Ballet , which he held until 2003. With this he created works such as Ruins of time (1993), Symphony in waves (1994), Duet (1995), Lost touch (1996), Die Zauberflöte (with Toer van Schayk , 1998) and Le Sacre du printemps (2000). From 2005 to 2012 he was artistic director of the English National Ballet , for which he a. a. created the choreographies Resolution , Man Y Men and Nutcracker . After 2012 he worked as a freelance choreographer.
