Waza is a municipality in the district of Logone-et-Chari province Extrême-Nord in Cameroon .

geography

The Nigerian border runs just under 10 km northwest of Waza . The Waza National Park named after the place is located to the southeast.

traffic

The longest Cameroonian national road, the N1 , crosses the town on its last section from the provincial capital Maroua to Kousséri .

Threat from Boko Haram

The region is very unsafe because of the Nigerian terrorist group Boko Haram , which also operates in Cameroon . For example, on May 16, 2014, the home of Chinese construction workers repairing the N1 near Waza was attacked by Boko Haram. Here, 10 of the Chinese were kidnapped who were later freed with other hostages.
