The weaving school is a historic building in the Brandenburg city of Cottbus .

history

The building was built in 1898 as the “Prussian Higher Technical School for the Textile Industry” and until 1934 it was run exclusively as a textile engineering school . Thereafter, the lessons were expanded to include operations management, technical mechanics, mathematics and physics. The school was closed in 1945 and finally moved to Forst in 1951 . In the following years the building was placed under a preservation order and was initially used by the German People's Police and later also by the Brandenburg police .

In December 2010 the roof structure burned down completely. The fire is said to have originated during roof repair work by two roofers. Adjacent buildings were not damaged.

In 2012 a student project was founded, which sees itself as an initiative for the preservation of the building.

Building description

The building before the fire

The weaving school is originally a four-story brick building in the style of historicism . It had a hipped roof , which, like the entire fourth floor, was completely destroyed by the fire. The central part of the facade is slightly ahead, and was originally developed by an ornate spectacle gable overhangs. The windows on the first and second and in parts of the third floor are flat arches - in the middle part of the third and in the destroyed fourth floor, pointed arch windows . All windows that are still preserved can be opened and closed using a chain hoist .
