Inactive alternating text display

The changing text display ( WTA ) is a traffic management tool operated by Astra, the Swiss Federal Roads Office .

With the alternating text display, road users are informed of events relating to traffic in areas ahead with the help of texts, pictograms or signals. In addition, information on accident prevention can be given by means of changing text displays.

technology

Newly constructed alternating text displays consist of full-color matrix displays, with each light point (pixel) being individually controllable. In principle, the requirements of EN 12966 must be met. Older alternating text advertisements may be limited in this regard.

The interface for data transmission is standardized throughout Switzerland; TLS over TCP / IP is used. The content is controlled by Traffic Management Switzerland , a sub-unit of Astra.

Content

The distribution of the content is predetermined. If signaling in accordance with SSV is used, it must be on the left. The information text appears on the right. Depending on the message, the following applies:

Traffic management
In the event of a malfunction, the appropriate signaling (traffic jam, etc.) is indicated as well as the location of the incident and the distance to the incident site (e.g. A1 Limmat Valley, 3 km traffic jam ). If loss of time is to be expected, this can be displayed. If a detour route is recommended, this is indicated (e.g. A2 Lopper, traffic jam, 30 minutes lost, Gotthard via A14 -> Schwyz ).
Traffic safety
If there is a warning, the type of danger is indicated in addition to a danger signal (e.g. wrong-way driver , Véhicule à contresens , icy ice , etc.).
Location-specific or general traffic information
This can be indicated in the case of events etc. (e.g. which exit to take to get to the event, e.g. football match via 37 Wankdorf ).
Preventive road safety advice
No pictograms or signals are displayed here, only text (e.g. tired? Take a break. )
National information
In the context of kidnapping alarm systems, corresponding displays can be activated (e.g. kidnapping - message on SRF radio )

In the idle state, the current time is displayed in digital form.
