The wayside chapel on the corner of Alpenstraße and Fortunastraße in Oberaussem was built in 1910 by the owner of the Abtshof and rebuilt in 1950. The chapel was added to the list of architectural monuments in Oberaussem in January 1997 .

history

Since the Abtshof was spared from the fire during the big fire in Oberaussem in 1907, the owner of the farm, Peter Weitz, built a chapel in the immediate vicinity of his estate. Due to a widening of the street, the chapel had to be demolished in 1950 and was rebuilt a few meters further.

After the statue of the Virgin Mary erected in the chapel was forcibly stolen, a stone cross that had been hidden under the plaster was found during the renovation work.
