Wayside cross

The Altenbroicher Straße crossroads are located in Odenkirchen - Mülfort in the Mönchengladbach Süd district in Mönchengladbach ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

The cross was built in 1715. It was entered under No. A 055 on July 28, 2009 in the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach .

location

On Altenbroicher Strasse, right next to the Catholic Church of St. Paul in Mülfort, west of Dohrer Strasse, hidden under trees is the squat cross.

architecture

The cross has a simple baroque design. Set up on a high rectangular base stone, follows a base of the cross, profiled with carnies , from which the vertical cross stem develops. The crossbar is short-armed. The front shows a bas-relief with the name “ INRI ”, a narrow cross and the applied tools of suffering .

We framed the depiction by an applied, circumferential band on the edges of the cross. The cross is inscribed on the base: “AD 1715 22. Julius”. The reverse bears the inscription " IHS " with a cross and a heart. It is made of Liedberg sandstone and probably comes from a local workshop.
