Moenchengladbach South is one of four districts of the independent city Mönchengladbach in western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia . Within Mönchengladbach, the administrative unit that has only existed since October 22, 2009 is usually briefly referred to as the southern district. In 2009, the former districts of Rheydt-West , Rheydt-Mitte and Odenkirchen were combined in the southern district . This administrative reform was passed on February 27, 2008 by the Mönchengladbach City Council with a narrow majority of just one vote. The seat of the district administration is in the Rheydt town hall.

District Representation

In the last local elections in 2009 , the population of the district who took part in the election voted 33.4 percent CDU , 29.5 percent SPD , 14.4 percent Greens , 9.0 percent FDP , 4.4 percent FWG , 6.6 percent Die Linke . The remaining 2.7 percent of the vote went to the other parties. The district council has 18 members.
