Mönchengladbach East is one of four districts of the independent city Mönchengladbach in western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia . Within Mönchengladbach, the administrative unit that has only existed since October 22, 2009 is usually briefly referred to as the East District . In 2009, the former districts of Neuwerk , Volksgarten and Giesenkirchen were merged in the eastern district . This administrative reform was passed on February 27, 2008 by the Mönchengladbach City Council with a narrow majority of just one vote. The seat of the district administration is in the administration building on Liebfrauenstrasse in Neuwerk-Mitte.

District Representation

In the last local elections in 2009 , the district population who took part in the election voted 36.3 percent CDU , 28.7 percent SPD , 12.2 percent Greens , 9.0 percent FDP , 8.3 percent FWG , 3.3 percent Die Linke . The remaining 2.2 percent of the vote went to the other parties. The district council has 19 members.
