Wegener Canyon

The Wegener Canyon is a deep-sea channel in the Lasarev Sea in Antarctica . It is located off the Princess Martha coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land .
The channel was discovered in 1985 by scientists from the German research vessel Polarstern . The designation, recognized by the Advisory Committee for Undersea Features in July 1989, was made at the suggestion of Hans Werner Schenke from the Alfred Wegener Institute . It is named after the German polar explorer Alfred Wegener (1880–1930).
