Ketterle way chapel

The Wegkapelle Ketterle (also Kötterle-Bildstock ) chapel in the Obermauern fraction in the municipality of Virgen ( East Tyrol ). The chapel is located on a footpath between the main town of Virgen and Obermauern, and is a listed building .

Building

The Ketterle way chapel is a brick wayside shrine on the pilgrimage route between Obermauern and Virgen. The building with its white plastered exterior walls, which is partially set into the slope above a rectangular floor plan, is protected by a shingle-covered gable roof. The high and flat arched altar niche is surrounded by a simple wrought iron grille.

Inside there is a wooden altar with a blue-gray marble frame and gold-plated ornaments. The altarpiece dates from the 18th century and consists of twisted columns and a flat arched gable end. The wooden Pietà is set against a painted landscape background.

There is an inscription on the south wall that was added in 1984 during the restoration:

"RENOVATED BY THE / SCHÜTZENKOMPANIE VIRGEN / WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF / POPULATION THROUGH DONATIONS / ON THE OCCASION OF THE 175TH MEMORIAL / YEAR OF TYROLEAN FREEDOM / FIGHTS 1809 1984"
