Military service card

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The military service card is an identification card for basic military servants in the Austrian Armed Forces . It is like carrying your dog tag during any type of military service.

The military service card is issued shortly after starting basic military service. This is a plastic card the size of a credit card according to ISO 7810 / ID-1 , which has a printed passport photo of the basic military servant in question, as well as his name and rank . In addition, the expiry date is noted, which corresponds to the planned release date from the basic military service (in Austria colloquially or semi-officially called the "disarmament date"). It is used for identification in the context of the armed forces, but is also evidence of the current military service in the civil sector. After military service, the former soldier keeps it and the card serves as proof of completed military service.

The military service card was introduced in 1999 and replaced the previously valid military service book , which contained much more information in plain text. In addition to personal data, the various training steps before or with the armed forces were entered. Special missions such as those abroad were also entered in the book. The WDB, as the short name was, was also issued when the military man arrived.
