The white-bellied brush- haired mouse ( Uranomys ruddi ) is a rodent from the group of mice (Muroidea).
White-bellied brush hair mice reach a head body length of 8 to 13 centimeters, the tail is relatively short with 5 to 8 centimeters. The weight is 41 to 53 grams. The hair on the back is long and bristly, which gives it a spiky impression. The fur is colored reddish brown to reddish gray on the back, the belly is white or light gray. The dark tail is sparsely covered with short hair.
These rodents are native to central Africa . Their distribution area extends from Senegal to southern Ethiopia and south to Zimbabwe and Mozambique . Their habitat is moist savannahs and grasslands, forests avoid them. They are nocturnal and build earthworks in which they create a grass-padded nest. Each den is inhabited by two adult animals. The diet of these animals consists mainly of insects.
The white-bellied hairbrush mouse is widespread, there are no known major threats, the IUCN lists it as “not at risk” ( least concern ).
