The white headed vanga ( Artamella viridis ) is a passerine bird in the family of the Vangawurger (Vangidae).
features
The whitehead vanga is a 20 cm tall, 44 - 57 g heavy, black and white feathered vanga with a characteristic combination of a pale white head in the male and a grayish head in the female, each with a short pale beak.
behavior
You can usually see them in pairs and often in "mixed flocks", together with other large vangas in the treetops.
distribution and habitat
The whitehead vanga belongs to the monotypical genus Artamella and is endemic to Madagascar , the typical habitat are forests below 1600 m, on plantations and on the outskirts of villages or towns.
The following subspecies can be distinguished:
- A. v. annae ( Stejneger , 1879) - in the west and southwest of Madagascar. This subspecies has a slightly longer beak.
- A. v. viridis ( Statius Müller , 1776) ( nominate form )

The stock is not considered to be at risk ( least concern ).
