Belarusian Christian Democracy ( Belarusian Беларуская хрысьціянская дэмакратыя Belaruskaja chryszijanskaja demakratyja ) is an unregistered political party in Belarus .

history

The party was founded in 1917 by several Catholic priests, including Winzent Hadleuski , Fabijan Abrantowitsch and Adam Stankewitsch. The party was active in western Belarus until 1940. She published the Belarusian Spring newspaper . Their political attitudes included not only clericalism , but social issues and the demand for an independent and democratic Belarus. In 1926, the party founded the Belarusian Institute of Economy and Culture. When the Soviet Union took the western part of Belarus in 1939, numerous members of the party were persecuted and executed.

Hadleuski himself was murdered by the National Socialists on Christmas Eve 1942 in the Maly Trostinez extermination camp . A re-establishment was not possible in the Soviet Union because all parties except the CPSU were banned. Only after independence from Belarus could the party be founded in 2005. However, the party has not been registered by the Justice Department since 2007. In the 2010 presidential elections in Belarus , Vital Rymascheuski , the deputy chairman of the Christian Democrats, ran for 1.1% of the vote.
