Weigel is an impact crater to the south of the front of the moon , south of the Schiller crater and northeast of Zucchius . The crater rim is moderately eroded and is overlaid in the southeast by the secondary crater Weigel A , the crater floor is flat.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the German naturalist and mathematician Erhard Weigel .
