The 348 meter long Weinbergbrücke , which connects the Optics Park Rathenow and the Weinberg, is a pedestrian bridge over the Havel and was built in the Havel region on the occasion of the 2015 Federal Horticultural Show . It swings in an arch over two arms of the Havel and the old arm of the Hellers Loch and connects the Rathenow vineyard as a local recreation area for the city and the optics park as a point of attraction for visitors to the area of ​​the former Federal Garden Show.

history

The two sites of the Federal Garden Show 2015 should be connected with each other, as they are separated by the Havel . The groundbreaking ceremony took place on December 17, 2012. The Weinbergbrücke was built in 22 months from December 2012 to October 2014 and is made of steel. On the most important BUGA construction project in Rathenow, the last two bridge sections, each 35 meters long and weighing 60 tons, were installed on March 31, 2014, connecting the two banks of the Havel and the four to five meters high and approx. 7.5 tons heavy steel pillars twelve threaded rods each screwed to the concrete foundation. The bridge was inaugurated on October 15, 2014 and was officially named Weinbergbrücke. It got the name through a voting process in the Rathenow population. More than 100 name suggestions came from the citizens. On September 3rd, the city council selected the winner from the last three names available for election. The total costs for the construction amounted to around 9.3 million euros.

The bridge became a public bicycle and pedestrian bridge after the end of the Federal Garden Show (October 2015).

Awards

In 2009, the bridge was designed at the 154th Schinkel competition organized by the Berlin Architects and Engineers' Association. e. V. excellent. The engineering office Schlaich bergermann partner received the German Civil Engineering Award 2016 for this project .
