Headquarters of the winery

The Johann Ruck winery was founded by Johann Balthasar Ruck in Iphofen in 1839 . The family history goes back to the year 945.

The winery has around 13 hectares of vineyards in well-known Franconian locations in the Steigerwald . The Iphöfer wines grow on Keuperboden and on southern slopes. The wines are usually made dry and have a pleasant acidity. Some of the high quality wines are aged in barriques and stored in the medieval cellar, built in the 12th century, until they are bottled. The simpler wines are matured in stainless steel tanks. Since 2006, Ruck has only used Stelvin twist locks .

Ruck is a member of the Association of German Predicate and Quality Wineries , whose chairman for the Franconian area was Johann Ruck from 1981 to 1989 and a founding member of the TRIAS winegrowers' association - an association of five Franconian winemakers. TRIAS strives to develop the wines appropriately for their terroir . We pay attention to single-grape processing, selective hand-picking and controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks and in wooden barrels (traditionally).

Ruck is listed in the wine guide (2004) of the magazine Der Feinschmecker / Weingourmet in the first third of the best 700 wineries in Germany (4 × F ) and was included in the list of best wineries in the world also in wine gourmet a few years ago .

The winery sells directly or through well-known delis and upscale restaurants. In addition to wine, high-proof spirits and, in the colder months, pralines refined with their own wines from well-known confectionary production are offered. According to its own information, Ruck has already supplied customers such as Fidel Castro and Pope Benedict XVI. Business relationships have extended to Japan for years.
