A wide span mast is a guy mast in a line section with a large span, e.g. B. Valley spans. In the case of long-span masts, the distances between the conductor cables are larger than the usual values in order to prevent the cables from collapsing in a storm (which would result in a short circuit ).

Long span masts have to have a high strength due to the high tensile forces of the long cable section of the valley crossing and are therefore sometimes designed as portal masts .

In the case of large spans and exposed positions of the wide span masts, a separate mast can be used for each conductor instead of a common mast in order to achieve a particularly large distance between the conductors.
