The wide-mouthed mud snail ( Radix ampla ) is a water lung snail from the family of mud snails . The species has been proven since the Pleistocene .

features

The thread of the housing is very small, the last turn is very much enlarged. The top edge of the case opening is usually higher than the top of the case. The inner edge of the opening is strongly bent. The fold is straight. The housing is up to 20 mm high and up to 19 mm wide. The housing is solid and almost opaque.

Way of life and distribution

The species lives in quiet parts of rivers and lakes. They usually stay on the shoreline near the water surface. The species occurs in Central and Eastern Europe as far as Siberia. It is relatively rare.

Similar species

The species is mainly to be confused with the ear mud snail . However, in contrast to this type, the spindle fold is not twisted and usually turned over more strongly.
