Bao Weizhu (born September 27, 1969 in Shaanxi Province ) is a Chinese applied mathematician and computer physicist .

Weizhu Bao studied at Tsinghua University with a bachelor's degree in 1992 and a doctorate in 1995 with Houde Han (Artificial Boundary Conditions for Incompressible Viscous Flows and Their Applications). He was a post-doctoral student at Imperial College London . In 1995 he became a lecturer and in 1998 an associate professor at Tsinghua University. From 1998 to 2000 he was Visiting Assistant Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology and in 2000 Van Vleck Visiting Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison . He became Assistant Professor in 2001, Associate Professor in 2005 and Professor at the National University of Singapore in 2009 . From 2013 to 2016 he was Provost's Chair Professor there.

He deals with Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC) and the associated Gross-Pitaevskii equation , numerical fluid mechanics, numerical quantum mechanics and quantum chemistry, numerics of partial differential equations (multi-scale modeling, hyperbolic conservation laws, multi-scale time integrator method for strong oscillating partial differential equations) and computational physics. He also dealt with solid-state physics and materials science and developed, for example, models for the wetting of solid-state surfaces.

In 2014 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Seoul (Mathematical Models and Numerical Methods for Bose-Einstein Condensation). In 2013 he received the Feng Kang Prize in Scientific Computing from the Chinese Society of Computational Mathematics, and with Houde Han and others, he received the Beijing Science and Technology Award in 2002.
