The company was founded in 1915 by Francis Welch and William Noah Allyn and was a family-run independent company until 2015. The competitor Hill-Rom Holdings announced on June 17, 2015 the purchase of the company for a purchase price of 2.05 billion USD in cash and shares.
The company had been represented in Germany since 1921 and produced blood pressure monitors in Jungingen . In 2012, Welch Allyn GmbH und Co. KG announced the closure of the plant.
