Waveform

Examples of basic periodic waveforms: sine , square , triangle , and sawtooth waves

The waveform , in the German language also waveform , is the shape and form of the temporal course of the change of a quantity of a vibration . It can also be described by an abstract representation. Usually the periodic or aperiodic course of physical quantities is considered, less often cyclic social changes.

In acoustics, waveform denotes the envelope curve of the acoustic oscillations in an oscillogram of graphical user interfaces of audio editors but also of other music software such as software samplers or DJ programs .

In radar technology , the waveform is a special modulation pattern of the transmission energy and comprises all types of modulation including switching the transmitter on and off via a pulse sequence . Various modulation patterns are used here to uniquely assign the received echo signals to the causing transmission pulses in order to determine their exact transit time . These modulation patterns are generated in special, often freely programmable waveform generators .
