The Wells Fargo Center (formerly the First National Bank Building and First Interstate Bank Building ) is a complex of buildings consisting of a 166.4 meter (546  ft ) skyscraper and a 5-story annex in Portland , Oregon . It was completed in 1972 and is the tallest building in Portland and Oregon.

history

The building complex was designed by Charles Luckman and Associates. It was completed in 1972 under the name First National Bank Tower and opened on April 17th of the same year. A skyway connects the two buildings. The First National Bank, which is also the namesake, was the main tenant at the time and used the first 21 floors, including the extension building, which was named Data Processing Building. In the early 1990s, the name was changed to First Interstate Bank Building after the parent company of the First National Bank of Oregon adopted the same name. The building got its current name after Wells Fargo bought First Interstate Bancorp. The construction of the project ensured maximum height for future projects after differences arose over the fact that the Wells Fargo Center eclipsed all other construction projects, looked too bulky and future, similar construction projects would block the view of Mount Hood . According to many critics, the building is also unsuitable from an architectural point of view.

Between 2002 and 2003 the publicly accessible areas were renovated. This included above all the space for retail.

Others

The Wells Fargo Center is the regional headquarters of Wells Fargo. It also served as the headquarters of Willamette Industries until 2003, when the company was bought by Weyerhaeuser .

There is a stagecoach in the lobby, as can be seen on the bank's logo.
