The Wells Fargo Tower is a 34-story, 138-meter-high office tower in Birmingham , Alabama . When it was completed in 1986, it served as the headquarters of Bank SouthTrust, which at that time was also the namesake of the building ( SouthTrust Tower ). In 2005, the tower was renamed Wachovia Tower after the Wachovia company merged with SouthTrust. The building has been called Wells Fargo Tower since September 2010 after Wells Fargo bought Wachovia. Since then, the logo has been on the upper part of the building.
The building was planned by the architects Skidmore, Owings and Merrill in cooperation with Giattina, Fisher & Aycock. Brice Building Company was the builder of the project. Since its completion, it has been the tallest building in the city and state . The building held this title until 2006, when it was outbid by the RSA Battle House Tower in Mobile .
Although the law firm Burr & Forman is the largest tenant, the building is named after the Wells Fargo Bank, which uses the building as its regional headquarters.
