The Welsbach is a brook in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia . According to the Thuringian State Office for the Environment, Mining and Nature Conservation, it is one of the second-order flowing waters.

It rises in the Heilinger Heights and flows through the towns of Kleinwelsbach and Großwelsbach . At the same time, the water is also the namesake of both places. The brook flows into the Unstrut in Thamsbrück .

origin of the name

Earlier in the Welsbach should once catfish lived. Hence the body of water should bear his name.

Flood

The stream was often full to the brim after the snow melted or after strong storms. This often led to devastating floods.
